Laser Therapy Lasers figure
prominently in many of the most advanced techniques for
repairing and treating eye conditions. Lasers use narrow
beams of light, precisely directed, to produce excellent
results with minimal tissue disruption.
Grossnickle Eye Center is equipped with four
state-of-the-art lasers onsite: the Excimer laser (used for
LASIK surgery), the argon laser, the YAG laser and the
Selecta II laser. In addition to their role in LASIK, lasers
are used to treat conditions including:
Glaucoma: The elevated eye pressure
associated with glaucoma is typically managed medically; in
some cases, lasers can help to open fluid channels in the
eye for better drainage.
Cloudy membranes: Lasers can open cloudy
membranes that can sometimes occur in the months and years
following cataract surgery.
Retinal tears: Lasers are effective in
sealing the edges of a torn retina, to prevent detachment.
Retinal disorders: Lasers can control
damage to retinal blood vessels due to diabetes or other
causes.
